Pre-production is well on its way for “Drag Race Philippines”, a local version of the Emmy-winning reality series, “RuPaul’s Drag Race”. Currently in its twelfth season, the franchise is on a roll with its efforts to expand, what with “Drag Race UK” and “Celebrity Drag Race” being its latest spinoffs.
Details are sparse as to which network has successfully nabbed the production rights to the widely successful series, but sources seem confident about its host, Paolo Ballesteros.
Effectively a drag queen himself, Ballesteros appeared in movies and television multiple times portraying his female persona. He’s also famous for his “makeup transformations”, giving him at the very least the experience as a qualified host for the local spinoff.
Though far from hitting the mainstream like in its Western counterparts, the drag scene in the Philippines is thriving. Early bets (not confirmed as yet) to appear in the pilot season include Katkat Dasalla, Dee Dee Holiday, and Lady Gagita.
More details will be revealed soon when commencement of production after the COVID-19 crisis dies down.
